Helga Hughes and her late husband Ken visited Germany many times to compile this collection of recipes and festival traditions from different regions. Helga grew up in Germany and was educated there. Karin Gottier, editor of German-American Life, provided an essay about Christmas traditions. Accenting the book are quotes and illustrations plucked by Joanne Asala from fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm. Also, there is a historical perspective of the people, time, and place influencing the cultural traditions of Germany's foods and festivals provided by Eberhard Reichmann, Ph.D. and Ruth Reichmann, Ph.D., scholars of Germanic studies.
